Four Ways To Bond With Your Baby

There will always be a special bond between a mother and a child. Whatever is the reason behind this bond is beyond words. Some say it may be because it is the mother who gave birth or maybe because the mother carried the child for nine long months.

The bond between mother and child is different from the bond between the father and the child. We have seen children and even adults run to their mothers to tell them about their successes and failures. We have seen mothers comfort their children and we have seen mothers calm even their wildest child. There is no denying that the bond is unique and you can't help but wonder how it is formed. Some believe that for a bond to flourish it has to start right after the baby is born.

Babies may look like they don't care but we must not forget they have feelings. Babies may not talk but they can get hurt or feel abandoned. Remember that when the baby is out of the womb, he enters a new world. He might feel out of place since he is so used to living inside the womb for nine months. It is essential that right after birth the mother should immediately bond with her baby. A good bond between a mother and child at an early age will serve as the cornerstone for their mother and child relationship once the child grows up. Here are some ways to bond with your baby.

1. Hold your child. Babies cannot talk but they surely can feel. Whenever your baby cries hold him in your arms. This gesture will let him know that you are there for him, that there is someone looking after him. Holding your child will make him feel safe and he will eventually learn to trust you. He'll get so used to you that he will cry whenever someone else is holding him. He may seem like he doesn't know but he can tell who is holding him.

2. Sing. Whether you're just playing with him or her or putting him or her to sleep, sing. You can sing almost any song. Music helps the child's brain develop. Singing will also help him get used to your voice.

3. Talk to him. Talking to your child will help him know that you are giving your full attention to him. It will show that he is important to you. Just like singing, talking to him will help him get used to your voice and eventually he will respond once he hears your voice.

4. Breastfeed. Physical contact is important when developing a bond with your child. Getting physical with your child will make him feel safe. It will also keep him warm especially when it is cold. When you breastfeed you keep your child close to you. At this point you can look at your baby, talk and even sing to him.

Rearing a child may not be easy but by being with him most of the time you will surely develop a strong bond between you and your child. It is the kind of bond that will last a lifetime.
