Eight Steps For An Enjoyable Baby Bathing Time
Giving your little angel his daily bath should be one of the most pleasant parts of the day, not only for baby but for you as well. However most mommies, especially the first-timers, find that bathing is not all that simple. Picturing yourself giving a standard bath which often times requires awkward positions towards your baby often impose fear because you do not want to lose control of your baby's movements especially when he or she is all soapy or slippery. But now, you no longer have to fear bathing times. Here are eight simple steps for you to follow to make bathing time for babies easy and enjoyable.
• Make sure you have everything you need in place before you begin. Make sure to use gentle pH-neutral cleansers or mild soaps that are made specially for babies. Keep in mind that baby skin is very sensitive and may easily be irritated if you use soaps or cleansers that are too harsh. You may need a soft washcloth or flannel cloth, a large bath towel to cover him and a small one with which to dry him. It is necessary to assemble all the needed bathing accessories at the start so you won't have to scamper to and fro with your baby wet in your arms for a bath towel or anything you may need for that matter.
• The room should be draft free and warm. Also, make sure that the bath water is just right comfortably warm at about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. You may use your wrist or elbow to test the temperature of the bath water ensuring that it is comfortable enough for your baby.
• Fill the bathing vessel or basin with about four and a half inches of water or make it enough that your baby is settled with his shoulders covered in water. For babies over six months old, never fill the bathing basin to more than waist deep as you want your child to be in a sitting position.
• Undress your baby completely and then bring him to the area you prepared for his bathing.
• Now slowly but surely, slip your baby into the bath water. Using one hand gently but firmly support both your baby's neck and head.
• Gently wash your baby with your free hand careful not to scratch his skin with your fingernails. You may use a flannel cloth or soft sponge to wash him. Do not allow soapsuds to get into his mouth, nose or eyes. A custom wash is all that is required when cleaning your baby's genitals. Sometimes, dried mucus is formed in the corner of the baby's eyes or nostrils. Do not wipe it out immediately because wiping it continuously may irritate your baby's sensitive skin. Instead, pat it several times with a moist cotton to soften it then you can completely wipe it out after.
• With a flannel cloth cleanse completely your baby.
• After bathing, lift him carefully and pat him dry with the small towel you prepared. Wrap him carefully with the large towel. Applying a mild moisturizing lotion after bath time would be great for baby's skin.
