Methods In Disciplining You Child
The time-out method of behavior modification is a practical way of imposing consequences. It works successfully on children of all ages, but is especially effective with younger children. It may sound pretty sophisticated, but it isn't. it's really a simple way to reinforce certain behaviors you like and get rid of the ones you don't, without punishing your child.
The basic idea is to praise your child for his or her positive and good behavior because when the behavior is rewarded it will occur more often and purposely ignore the negative rather inform your child it is not a good thing to do in order for him to undo it, because you don't want the negative to be rewarded with your attention. Better call his or her attention, tell the truth what is wrong with his or her actions. It is the best way of guiding your child to continue to do the good things and kick the habit of doing things which are not good.
This method of discipline should start at birth because it doesn't require language or the child understands. Babies just naturally respond to attention, and when they get it for a certain behavior, they tend to repeat that behavior more often. Of all the disciplinary methods, this is the one that requires the closest, most consistent no punitive parental involvement with a child.
Problems develop in young children because parents too often reward negative behavior with their undue attention. Later, when the frequency of this behavior becomes problematic, parents resort punitive methods to extinguish it, causing pain to both parents and child. All these could be prevented if parents would just consistently reward acceptable behavior and not give undue attention to the negative. To discourage unacceptable behavior , when your child misbehaves, try to initiate light but effective disciplinary action; like sending him or her out of the room for a few minutes and make him realize that he or she has done the wrong thing. Or might as well, send your child to a designated time out room where your child can think, recall and feel sorry for misbehaving. After a few minutes of not giving your child undue attention, talk to your child, ask what he just did and tell him what was wrong with it. Make your child understand that you feel sad when he or she does something bad or misbehaves. It is a way of conferring with your child, instilling the good things, good values, and the motivation of pulling your child away from the chance of doing the wrong thing again. And never forget to warn him that when bad things will be done again, there will be punishments as people hates bad and misbehaving kids.
Having a heartily conversation with your child concerning his attitude, acknowledging his good behavior and showing disapproval of his wrong doings and unkind behaviors will be your child's guide as he grows. Consistent reminder, constant communication, and unconditional love, and patience in molding your child's behavioral mannerisms and attitude will bear advantageous results. Remember, the environment of our child will play a big part intervening the attitude of our children. The people in the community will be a big factor of your child's behavioral development. And we must consider doing our share of instilling the good things that will influence out children not to be misguided rather see our children well- brought up.
